Embryos can be transferred directly after culture or flushing, while the excess embryos can be frozen and stored for transfer and implantation at a later stage.
In Vitro Africa is making use of the new “fast method” to freeze IVF-produced embryos. Excellent results are achieved with the new technique with conception rates of between 50 and 75%. These results make it possible for cattle breeders to build a bank of embryos through the year which can then be utilized during the natural breeding season.
In Vivo (flushed) embryos are frozen in ethylene glycol and can also be transferred directly into recipient cows.
